Fashion, fur and the Fifties

In 2011, Beyonce Knowles finally gave us the answer to a question that has plagued us for centuries, sparking debate amongst esteemed philosophers and grand thinkers alike- who does indeed, run the world? (Hope you're singing along as badly as I am..) But let's face it, in the fashion world, there's been no doubt you runs the show, and this AW13/14, feminine fashion reigns supreme. Think Hitchcock's heroines, cinched in at the waist and draped in sumptuous furs. Think full skirts and hour glass silhouettes. Think Gucci, Prade, Erdem... Prepare yourself to fall into a lustful fashion-fuelled slumber if you haven't already; let's check out the looks on and off the catwalk...
Yep, that's pretty much how we looked when we saw Gucci's AW13/14 collection too...

This season, everyone's gone a little bit psycho for mid-century inspired trends. Channeling merry old Alfred himself, femme fatales strutted down the runway, their chic waist belts and fabulous fifties inspired shoes melting the hearts and loosening the purse strings of women around the world. I mean, who isn't seduced by a bit of Louis Vuitton? Be it Marc Jacobs' metallic pencil skirts and splashes of fur, or Bottega Veneta's crimson, statement jackets and Rita Hayworth hair, we've all been left utterly spellbound. (If only we had pound for every Hitchcock pun we could fit into one paragraph...)

To sprinkle a bit of grandeur onto any outfit, all you need is a splash of fur. Be it the lining of a cape, draped around your neck or adorning your new winter jacket, lavish fur oozes elegance and takes any day to day outfit to the next level. Prada feature some magnificent fur jackets, and we all know if you can't beat 'em, joining in is the next best thing... South West Ten have a fabulous range of fur coats to take your pick from. Our fur lined parkas even have a detachable on trend gilet- flawless fashion in excess.

For those of us who just fancy a subtle nod to the trend, our fur lined cashmere scarves radiate glamour and are perfect for layering over jackets and knits as our bitter British winter takes hold. Already a firm favourite with the marvellous Millie Mackintosh, get your hands on this exquisite staple piece and take the lead in the style stakes this season.

So there you have it. We might not all be Grace Kelly or Ingrid Bergman, but we can certainly have a whack at channeling their stylish spirits. Glamour is the new grunge, so this season let your inner vixen come out to play. If you need a hand, you know where to look...

The Marvellous Mrs Millie Manderson

Disclaimer: this article will be riddled with many a bitter remark and underpinned by a solid foundation of jealousy. Blame Millie, it’s not our fault she looked that good.

On the 10th September 2013, our beautiful Millie entered the gorgeous Babington House as Miss Mackintosh, and left as Mrs Manderson. Our style (girl) crush is officially off the market (sob, but at least she wed a Manderson so we can still have fun with the alliterative taglines…). We have enough trouble choosing what to wear to the supermarket, so when you’re the woman with the wardrobe that pales many a fashionista’s into insignificance, how can you ever decide what to wear for the most important day of your life? Well, my god didn’t she choose well. The spectacular vintage Alice Temperley gown radiated elegance and Millie was aglow. She completed the look with the ultimate accessories- ivory Louboutins on her feet and Pro green on her arm. Still torn as to which I would prefer…

Speaking as an avid believer of the ‘well you never know when a so and so might come in handy’ school of thought, I think I could be pushing it when it comes to a wedding dress… But that doesn’t mean we still can’t channel Millie’s effortless, regal stylings in our day to day wardrobes. Winter looms ever closer, and as we start loading the loft with our endless supply of kaftans and yet another pair of gladiator sandals, our desire for chunky knits and luxurious wraps comes back out to play. Why not try one of our stunning fur coats on for size- the ultimate luxurious item of a woman’s winter wardrobe. The sumptuous feel and elegant look come together to delight the senses, and add a bit of glam to any wardrobe. If you’re looking for a splash of royalty and grandeur to liven up a day to day look, then our fur trimmed capes and wraps could do the trick. Our dark grey, cashmere shawl is already hanging up in the wardrobe of the lovely Millie- follow her lead and team with a chunky knit and skinnies or throw over a light jacket or dress. Endlessly versatile, endlessly stylish.

So there you have it, that's the closest we'll ever get to the wedding... I’ve tried my best to keep the jealousy down to a minimum, (how did I do?), and Millie we’ve just about managed to forgive you for our lack of invite, but if you really fancy making it up to us, maybe lend us the dress sometime? Or Pro Green, he wouldn't go amiss either…

Holiday headaches

In precisely 13 days, a task awaits me that can only be described as quite frankly impossible, a problem that has relentlessly plagued females across the globe for decades, a challenge that has claimed the sanity of many a victim across the summer period. That's right ladies, it's the season of the 10kg baggage restriction. Deep breaths people. Whilst the thoughts of basking in the delicious heat of the Spanish sun or wasting away afternoons in delightful tavernas with a Mojito glued to my right hand serves only to heighten my excitement, I have a constant niggling reminder that I very well may be doing all of the above naked. Or worse, in the same outfit. But here at SWT, we've done our best to compile a few key elements for the perfect capsule holiday wardrobe to conquer this almighty feat. (First world problems, eh...)

Okay, we figured we'd tackle the issue in two chunks, the first of which being daytime wear. The perfect poolside piece is undoubtedly the kaftan or tunic dress, which can quite easily be teamed with a pair of skinnies and wedges and voila- you could be walking the streets of Barcelona. With a wide range on offer at SWT, why not try on for size our gorgeous, dragonfly print Monroe Tunic? The loose fit and soft nude tones ooze bohemian chic and it's 100% silk so will look and feel fab. Or take advantage of one of our stunning sale items such as our green silk beauty with embellished neckline. What ever tickles your fancy, only pack a couple! Okay, maybe three.

http://www.southwestten.com/holiday-shop
In the evening, there's nothing like a maxi dress to inject a bit of glamour into your wardrobe, and it means you're outfit's sorted from head to toe! Well, ankle. Our gorgeous, floral beauty is bang on trend this season, and the stretch material ensures that it doesn't crease and can be easily packed. The vibrant print and halter neck shape radiates glamour and wouldn't look amiss wherever you're jetting off to. Alternatively, our pure silk dragonfly maxi comes in coral, aqua and will soon be available in black to set off your holiday tan.

http://www.southwestten.com/holiday-shop/Aqua-Dragonfly-Maxi-Dresshttp://www.southwestten.com/holiday-shop/Cobalt-Floral-Maxi-Dress
If the maxi doesn't do it for you, a staple evening top could do the trick. This green and lilac fern print top is a stunning piece that would look great over a pair of white jeans for miami chic. If bright colours are your thing, our multi coloured print beauty will suit all body types with it's effortless loose shaping. Or if you fancy a bit of bling, our lime green chiffon tunic with beaded embellishments will be sure to dazzle, and the colouring is huge for SS13.

Now we're not super human, so we're leaving accessories and swimwear down to you, but we leave you under strict instruction that you must NOT pack 10 pairs of sandals or two bikinis per day. Top tip, your hand luggage can take another 5kg. Or alternatively hunt down the elusive breed of light-packing friends and cram the rest into their case. Sharing is caring after all. We wish you the best of luck, and fingers crossed I'll make it out to Gran Canaria fully armed with a well packed, thought out 10kg case. Here's hoping...

To many of us, festival chic seems a tad contradictory. We're talking a relentless downpour, more mud than...well anything, and for all of our sakes we won't get too descriptive on the toilet situation. Screaming chic to any of you at home? Yeah, us neither. But we're British, we're too polite to complain, and who doesn't love a new trend to indulge in? So here at SWT, with Glastonbury fast approaching, we're giving you our take on the trend that reigns supreme this month. Just add wellies and a tonne of baby wipes.

An essential base for any festival outfit is a staple tunic that can be paired with bare legs and boots for Glastonbury-esque apparel, or alternatively can be thrown over a pair of skinnies and wedges to bring a bit of festival to the high street. Get a bit of glam into your festival gear with our beaded lime green tunic, bang on trend with the neon hues and embellished detailing. The bat-wing sleeves are channeling a 70s vibe, the home of hippy chic, so this retro-modern combo oozes festival appropriateness. Another stunning tunic we have on offer is our monroe piece, with dragonfly print and waist belt. This beauty screams bohemian chic, with the soft pink foundation, vibrant print and the flowy nature of the garment. Or take advantage of our one hundred percent silk print tunic. The beaded neckline and traditional indian-esque patterning culminate in a staple festival garment, and what's more- it's half price. You are so welcome.

(from left to right)

Accessorising day to day outfits can be the perfect way to sprinkle a bit of festival chic into your day to day wardrobe, and we think we have the perfect piece for you. Why not try out one of our velvet trilbies on for size? Coming in a wide variety of colours ranging from matte black to a vibrant leopard print, a pop of colour or pattern can brighten up any daytime outfit, and would be sure to stand out amongst the crowds when you're all packed in front of the main stage. Might even win you a cameo on the big screen...

So if we haven't quite convinced you to delve into the depths of Glastonbury in one of our staple trilbies or tunics, than don't miss out on the trend completely. Nothing wrong with adding a dash of festival into any day to day outfit, minus all the excessive mud. Almost sounds more appealing...

Wimbledon wardrobe

With the French Open officially done and dusted, and Wimbledon looming in the distance, the season of tennis is officially upon us. Think glasses of ice cold Pimms; think crisp, tennis whites; think a tanned, sweaty, topless Nadal... (here's hoping). And with the nation waiting with baited breath to see if our very own Murray will finally take the title, why not not wait in true tennis style? This year, let Wimbledon into your wardrobe.

sorry, we couldn't help ourselves...
Nothing compliments a healthy summer glow (/cheeky spray tan) like a tennis white, and this Summer the fresh tone has invaded designer collections everywhere, Vogue dubbing the colour the shade of the season. Go casual in these Elizabeth Hurley capri pants, ideal for holiday or our British summer (however temperamental...). Or at the other end of the spectrum, adorn yourself in our stunning mesh panel bodycon dress. The sparkle detailing and fresh, nude tones radiate understated glamour- might be a bit much for Wimbledon, but can a girl ever be too overdressed?

http://www.southwestten.com/clothing/Mesh-Panel-Bodycon-Dress
http://www.southwestten.com/clothing/trousers/Capri-Pants

Alternatively, celebrate the tennis season in a more practical sense with our very own SWT polo shirts and baseball caps. Champion the Royal Borough of Style and adorn yourselves in our gorgeous garments! The polos come in pastel shades of pink and blue; fresh, fashionable, fabulous. The hats again come in the shade of the moment, white, and wouldn't look amiss at any Wimbledon match, for the lucky few who have managed to snag tickets. Practical, fashionable, and our very own- what more could you ask for?

http://www.southwestten.com/Accessories/hats/South-West-Ten-Cap

So there you have it- if we can't quite get Nadal into our bedrooms, we can certainly channel the spirit of the rest of the tennis season through our wardrobes. We'll keep an eye out in the crowds for any SWT polos or mesh bodycon dresses... let the games begin!

A bit o' bling...

In the fabulous world of fashion, saying less is more is pretty much blasphemous- there's always room for more. And this season is no exception, with the likes of Louis Vuitton and Balmain paving the way, bling and sparkle have been firmly embedded into the ranks of the season's top trends. We're talking sequins, crystals, shine; think Strictly Comes Dancing meets Gucci. And of course, we here at South West Ten have jumped aboard the bling brigade, offering up some embellished masterpieces to sprinkle a bit of sparkle into your wardrobe. Besides, who doesn't love a bit o' glitz and glam?

First up on offer is this turquoise, sequined beauty. The vibrant tones and spiral detailing radiate stylish glamour, bang on trend this season. The stretch material means the dress will fit all figures like a glove, oozing style and class. Dazzle in this embellished sensation, and leave a trail of onlookers green with envy.

http://www.southwestten.com/Turquoise-Sequin-Dress

Here's hoping a summer of sun is on the cards, and the perfect piece to compliment our tans (be it natural or out of the bottle...) is this nude damask dress. Hand sewn detailing on the neckline and the ornate printed pattern give this dress a touch of grandeur, with the bodycon shape and high neckline creating a feel of feminine sophistication.

http://www.southwestten.com/Nude-Damask-Dress

Steal the show in this navy sensation, radiating relentless iridescence. The beaded neck panel and mesh detailing culminate in a crescendo of glamour. The dress is fully lined, adding to the feel of luxury, ideal for evening occasions. Every wardrobe needs a show stopper, and if that position's still open, this dress is certainly up to the task.

http://www.southwestten.com/Navy-Beaded-Evening-Dress

This season, liken the fashion world to a magpie, eternally drawn to sparkle and shine. We're not saying for you all to go Liberace on us, but there's nothing wrong with letting your inner diva out to play once in a while... Get your glam on this June and surrender to the bling- go on, you know you want to.

When Cannes became old Hollywood

With Cannes Film Festival comes the anticipation of innovative, fresh new films, and an onslaught of tremendous fashion spectacles. This year as ever, it didn’t fail to deliver, but an unexpected guest came in the form of torrential rain. Doing little to dampen the atmosphere, the stars fought the elements with their very own tumultuous storm of fashion. And who can complain if Leo Dicaprio’s shirt clung a little tighter? The annual event steeped in majesty and grandeur opened with the long awaited Great Gatsby, and clearly the 20s glamour spilled out of the screen and onto the red carpet. For one year only, Cannes became Old Hollywood.

Cara Delevingne has become synonymous with striking style this year as she’s taken the fashion world by storm. When you look that good, a bin bag would look chic, but when met with Burberry it almost seems unfair. The model of the moment’s lace gown with plunging neckline was complimented with an array of bejewelled beauties. After the news hit the papers of the jewellery theft pre-festival, if Cara’s anything to go by there seems to be enough to go round... She was the epitome of a Hollywood siren, smouldering in this designer sensation.

When faced with standing next to Leonardo Dicaprio, it’s inevitable that the ability to use peripheral vision and look anywhere else is completely lost. But somehow, Carey Mulligan has flouted the laws of science (/obsession) and has managed to steal the show. The Hollywood starlet radiated regal sophistication, dazzling co-stars and fans alike. Her couture Dior dress was something in itself to be celebrated, oozing effortless class and fitting her frame like a glove. The blush pink tones with her platinum blonde hair and the dash of red lipstick culminated in a crescendo of Gatsby-esque glamour. Could it get any better? (Nope.)

Other notable beauties worthy of a mention come in the form of Lana Del Rey’s black and white masterpiece, with the scalloped detailing on the strapless neckline and fishtail detailing combining to accentuate her hourglass figure. Naomie Harris sizzled in her silver sensation, worthy of her Bond Girl status. And who can forget Isla Fisher? Red hair, red dress, red carpet: this scarlet siren sizzled amongst the other Hollywood stars.

Fancy jumping aboard the Old Hollywood brigade? We thought so. SWT are on hand to inject a bit of luxurious grandeur into your wardrobe. The key to 20s glamour came in the culmination of chic and simple, with a sprinkling of dazzling embellishments. Wrap yourself up in Gatsby glamour in our cream fox-fur shawl, perfect for adding a delicate splash of old Hollywood chic to any outfit. Our layered tops in ivory and coral come with hand embellished detailing at the neckline, which paired with skinnies can liven up any day time dress code. Or why not go all out Cannes in our very own bejewelled floor length dresses? With a subtle side slit and the vibrant, bold shades, this dress is a show stealer. Hang a bit of Hollywood up in your wardrobe.

So there you have it: Cannes, Gatsby and a whole lot of Old Hollywood, the ultimate trio. Oh, and Leonardo Dicaprio. Only mentioned him three times, that took real restraint. We hope we’ve successfully satisfied your thirst for encrusted Burberry and couture Dior (oh to live vicariously). Until next year Cannes, we miss you already.

When chaos Met couture

The 2013 Met Ball

It was Sienna Miller meets Burberry. It was Sarah Jessica Parker meets Mohican. It was Kim Kardashian meets, well, a sofa. It was 2013’s Met Ball! Vogue have done it again and thrown an outstanding bash full of fashion firsts, fashion favourites and of course, fashion fiascos. (Yes, we’re talking to you Madonna.) The night was charged with electricity, the punk theme holding sway as fishnets and excessive leather almost seemed vanilla. Here’s our take on who rocked, and who we’d really rather have rolled under the carpet.

My feeling on the whole ‘good news, bad news’ subject is always to go in with the worst first,  like ripping off a plaster, and today the plaster has to be Madonna. Rather fitting, because the only way to describe her outfit is painful. Tartan, fishnets, a studded choker, need I say more? For the woman who glorified Vogue, she hasn’t quite got the look down to a tee.
No one has ever tried to look for the good in an outfit more than I have this week, but it genuinely pains me to say that Beyonce definitely went a bit off track this year. She’s smoking hot as it is, so there’s really no need to wear a dress that looks like it’s been set on fire. The boots, the gloves- it’s definitely burnt our retinas. But who cares, it’s Beyonce. Through sickness and in health and all that jazz, we love you.

Don’t worry, there’s light at the end of the tunnel! And it comes in the form of Blake Lively. The Gossip Girl star dazzled in this Gucci sensation, with organza layering that cascaded into a striking train. The feather detailing certainly had us all a flutter, and the soft silver and matte black tones oozed punk chic.
Jessica Alba kept it classy in this fitted, patterned floor length masterpiece, with a nod to the theme in head to toe leather and cut out panels. The epitome of effortless style, can she ever go wrong?
But the model of the moment stole the award for the look of the night. Cara’s plunging neckline is balanced out with her long sleeves, speckled with sharp gold stud detailing. Burberry meets Delevingne, it’s like Pimms and Summer, a faultless combination.

So there you have it, our highs and lows of the Gala of the year, and how the styles yoyo-ed. We’ve only scratched the surface, with the likes of Anne Hathaway and Rooney Mara equally deserving a standing ovation. We still haven’t managed to nab an invite, but until then we’ll just blog about it.  Besides, there’s always next year.

Fashion Royalty

Not many people step outside their front door and in a matter of minutes (60 of them to be precise), the dress they're wearing is completely sold out. But then again, there's nothing average about Kate Middleton, and there's certainly nothing average about her wardrobe. Two years and one day ago to date, she stepped out of her Aston Martin and stepped into the nation's hearts, adorned in an Alexander McQueen masterpiece that immediately left us all hungering for more fabulous fashion. And who can say she hasn't delivered...

For the diamond Jubilee parade, Kate stepped out in head to toe (/knee) scarlet, the outfit itself worthy of celebration. Every girl has a friend in Alexander McQueen (our bank accounts certainly don't....), and Kate returned to her old faithful pal in this pleated, vibrant masterpiece. The nude court shoes allowed her dress to steal the show, and every fashionista was drawn to this beauty like bull to cape. Kate made seeing red a whole lot more enjoyable...

No one can say this Duchess can't do down wear, as here Kate rocked a pair of coral, ankle skinnies. After playing a spot of Hockey with Team GB's Olympians (as you do), Kate paired her statement jeans with a blazer and colourful scarf to transform this look from stylish sports wear to delightful day gear. Effortlessly chic and eternally smiling, this royal radiates youthful style.

There's a reason we say 'a picture speaks a thousand words', and it's for photos like these. Kate dazzled in this Jenny Packham, teal sensation, whilst stepping out for a celebratory Olympic concert, and by any measure this dress deserves gold. The delicate lace detailing and buttons with the intricately embellished waistline leaves her looking every inch the princess. Nothing middle of the road about this Middleton.

It's not everyday we're invited out for a spot of partying with the Queen, or an exclusive Olympic celebratory ball, but here's hoping the Olympic men's hockey team need a helping hand at some point in the near future- a girl can dream- so here's our take on the colourful pair of skinnies that every wardrobe is lost without. Emulate Kate in our very own coral, stretch denim pair, citrus being a huge hit this season. Or pair your summer tan (again, here's hoping...) with a fresh, white set, the perfect foundation for bold, bright accessories.

http://www.southwestten.com/clothing/trousers/Stretch-denim-jeans---coral
http://www.southwestten.com/clothing/trousers/Stretch-denim-jeans---white

You know if a look's worthy of royalty, you can't be too far wrong, so get the majestic look now and let your wardrobe reign this season. Kate triumphs in the fashion world, the nation's absolute sweetheart, and no doubt her soon to be first born will be topping the style stakes in a matter of months. All hail Duchess Kate- fashion royalty.

Sunday 21 April 2013

Looking for flawless head to toe? Problem solved, meet Miss Kurylenko.

It’s official, there's a new girl on the block. Olga Kurylenko, star of the new blockbuster Oblivion alongside the ever-charming Tom Cruise, has been doing the premiere circuit for weeks, each event effortlessly climbing her way up the style stakes, leaving in her wake thousands of us desperately delving into our overdrafts for a scarlet, Valentino floor-length masterpiece. You know, the essentials. Well this style icon certainly doesn’t rely on her pretty face alone to make an impact; each premiere Olga never fails to pack a punch with yet another flawless outfit. Here are some of our red hot, red carpet faves.

In at number three, Olga takes to Ireland like a true Dubliner, dazzling in this emerald beauty. The sharp cut out detailing at the back combined with the large gold zip brings a bold, modern twist to this timeless shape, with the backwards collar addition making this dress our fashion forward fave.

Clearly channelling our arctic conditions over the past few months, Olga appeared at the London premiere looking every inch a spectacular snow queen. The sheer trail and layering gives this dress an ethereal quality, with the wrap over detail cinching in her waist (for all our egos’ sake, we’ll pretend it needed cinching). The off the shoulder cut blended with the bold black lace melts away any preconceptions of pure, snowy innocence. Olga smoulders in this Marchesa sensation.

It was a close call, but this Burberry beauty absolutely triumphs. The rich bronze tones ensure this dress takes nothing but gold position, oozing sophistication and old Hollywood glamour. The delicate lace detailing with the plunging V neckline, combined with the subtle side slit knocks this dress out of the park, and any onlooker into an envious stupor. Oblivion suddenly seems so fitting…

It takes a serious contender of a dress to live up to a face like that, but these designer heavyweights were going for the knock-out, and that’s exactly what they achieved. She's a style icon in the making- watch this space. There’s clearly something in the water in Ukraine, Mila Kunis another sensation sharing her heritage. So if that’s not reason enough to emigrate to Eastern Europe, then her wardrobe certainly is. See you all at Gatwick!

American Beauties

Two days ago, Michelle Obama delivered a heartfelt and inspirational speech in her city of Chicago over the issue of gun control within the USA, her message resonating throughout the conference hall and hitting home to millions nationwide. Just a pretty face? I think not. Just a pretty wardrobe? I also think not. But now we’re on the subject, good lord what a pretty wardrobe. We’ve all heard the phrase, behind every great man is a great woman. Well behind Barack Obama, there’s a great woman in a great sleeveless bodycon. Could it get any better? And the Obama’s aren’t alone. This week let’s delve into the wardrobes of two of the most stylish First Ladies ever to have graced the White House; no one’s ever cheery in the world of politics, but these women and their wardrobes certainly inject a bit of sunshine into government.

Who better to start with than the beautiful Jackie O? This fashion icon sweeps the board when it comes to elegance, style and absolute majesty.  Her infamous pink suit radiates class, sophistication and Audrey Hepburn-chic. Her high neckline dresses, body-con or fit-and-flare, are iconic, subtly feminine and absolutely gorgeous. Be it a bold print midi or a clean cut black and white beauty, every outfit seemed effortless. Jackie O, or Jackie O(h my God I need that dress)?

Michelle Obama has clearly channelled Mrs Kennedy, adorning the classic high-round neckline and sleeveless trend. Michelle’s arms are something to get up in arms about, toned to perfection, and this timeless shape does everything to highlight that. Be it hot pink or statement black, Michelle and her wardrobe shines.

Both of these women knew how to bring a bit of colour to the White house. Michelle proudly displays her patriotism where the whole world can see it, her wardrobe full to the brim with red, white and blue. Her vibrant cobalt dress with its bold floral print blends sophistication with a playful edge, whilst her magnificent floor length scarlet maxi screams Hollywood glamour, and wouldn’t look amiss upon the red carpet. This first lady certainly comes first in the style stakes.

It’s about time we brought some White House glam across the Atlantic, and what better place to start than right here at SWT. Channel Jackie and Michelle in this timeless cut, or add a slight quirk with the square neckline and cap sleeves in this rich blue beauty. Flattering pleats across the bust and stomach can create a flattering silhouette for any body type; lets give Michelle and her body a run for their money.
http://www.southwestten.com/clothing/dresses/Coral-Bodycon-Dress
http://www.southwestten.com/clothing/dresses/Cap-Sleeved-Body-Con-Dress

These gorgeous floor length embellished dresses wouldn’t look amiss at any White House shindig. Jackie herself seemed to be channelling SWT back in the 60s in her very own high necked beauty with crystal embellishments along the hem. Fashion that translates across the decades and the Atlantic, what more could you ask for?

http://www.southwestten.com/clothing/dresses/Turquoise-Maxi-Dress

Jackie O and Michelle Obama alike are fashion icons, the pinnacle of stylish sophistication. These women may be on the arms of some of the greatest orators of their time, but we all know a picture (or an outfit, in their case) speaks a thousand words. And in my head, all their outfits scream fabulous fabulous fabulous. So just in case you ever get invited across the pond for a cheeky cup of tea with the Obama’s, we hope this serves as your survival guide. A girl can never be too prepared.

There’s no avoiding the magnetism of this season's leading trend...

METALLICS

It’s official, the fashion world has gone mental for metal. Vogue have dubbed it ‘The Shining’, Selfridges ‘Heavy Metal’; it seems the best of the metallic puns have been quickly snatched up early in the season, but the best metallic accessories? We might just have the edge there…

Johnathan Saunders- Versace- Nina Ricci

If head to toe metallic is a bit too much sheen for you, a subtle nod to the trend can be achieved with any outfits favourite sidekick- the clutch bag. SWT have taken two of spring’s leading crazes and blended them together, culminating in a piece of metallic majesty. Snakeskin has taken the fashion world by storm, adding a bit of bite to any accessory, and combined with the sharp metallic tang of silver, this clutch bag will poison any passer-by with envy. Authentic python skin cured to an incredibly high level means this statement clutch will last the years, eternally stylish and resilient. With designers such as Mulberry paving the way, you know you can’t be too far off.

(Mulberry on right)

Silver doesn’t tickle your taste buds? Never fear, gold is here. This molten beauty is effortlessly effervescent, undoubtedly catching the eye of any onlooker. Fully lined, this piece oozes luxury and will last you a lifetime. This clutch undoubtedly has the Midas touch, sure to make any outfit absolutely golden.

(Stella McCartney on right)

Maison Du Posh took the envelope clutch one step further, adorning this silver beauty with metallic and crystal embellishments. South West Ten’s silver take on the clutch will certainly not leave you second place in the fashion stakes, this beauty belongs at the top, polishing off any look.

Ain't no sunshine where we're from...

If you’re one of the lucky few that have plans to escape England’s arctic climate this spring (no, spring wasn’t a typo), then well done you. But after delving into the depths of your wardrobe and being greeted by the dreary grey tones of seasons past, has your winter wardrobe left you feeling remarkably lacklustre? Thought so. The Easter holidays are upon us, and despite my over-arching jealousy I’m doing my best to power through and give you some inspiration over what to pack for your holiday- unless you fancy squeezing me into your case? Long shot, I know…

http://www.southwestten.com/holiday-shop/Aqua-Dragonfly-Maxi-Dress

http://www.southwestten.com/holiday-shop/Tropical-Print-Tunic

Having spent the weekend gorging on excessive amounts of chocolate, this gorgeous tropical print tunic is ideal. The embellished waistband flatters any shape or easter-egg related lumps and bumps, and the loose, flowing fit and batwing sleeves look and feel weightless and fresh. The bright colours radiate seasonal fun, brightening up the pool side or any restaurant. Alternately, cut out sleeves add a fun shape to this classic, with the patterned belt cinching in any waist, exuding casual elegance.

This silk kaftan is sure to make any fellow holiday maker green with envy. Or emerald, to be precise. The sexy side slits and sequin neckline allows this beauty to be transformed from sun-lounger chic to a dress perfect for any night out. Versatile and vibrant, if you pack one thing this holiday, let it be this!

So we here at South West Ten wish you and your gorgeous holiday wardrobes a wonderful, safe trip- feel free to bring us back a souvenir, preferably a bit of sun. And for those of us left behind feeling as bitter as the weather, fox-fur trimmed scarf anyone?

Mrs Professor Green

Today, I have been faced with the time old question that has plagued society for centuries- do you want the good news or the bad news first? Unfortunately, in print it’s difficult to please both parties, but I’ve gone with my instinct and punted for bad. It’s only up from here…

Ladies, it’s official- Professor Green is off the market. That’s right, the ever charming Hackney born rapper has hopped off the stage and landed on one knee, supplementing Millie Mackintosh’s ever stylish and over flowing wardrobe with the ultimate accessory. If you’re prone to jealousy, I suggest you look away now...

There is light at the end of the tunnel, I assure you! Here it is- just think how gorgeous Millie’s dress is going to be? Cheered you up? Yeah, me too. So with wedding bells chiming in the distance, and my imagination running away with itself once more, I pondered, what would I wear to the bash? It’s time to look for that perfect wedding (guest) dress, and I think I’ve found the answer right here at South West Ten.

The general rule of thumb as a wedding guest is to avoid white, full length lace numbers, so taking this on board, I present to you option number one. This vibrant, fitted midi dress cinches in any waist and exudes effortless feminine sophistication. The royal purple will spice up any reception, and the fabric is machine washable- ideal after close encounters with drunken uncles and their dangerously full champagne flutes.

Alternately, this nude bodycon beauty with cut-out arms oozes luxury whatever the occasion. Reminiscent of the infamous Herve Leger bandage dresses, this fitted number offers designer chic at an affordable price. Need I say more?

Not every skin tone can master nude (myself included), but my final pick of the day happens to come in cobalt, black, red and navy, which pretty much has every palette covered. With flattering pleats over the stomach and an elegant V-neckline, nothing says understated glamour more.

So there you have it, three sensational picks that scream wedding attire. Besides, what better way to cure serious jealousy than to go shopping? After all, it’s a well known fact that a statement dress is the new prozac.
Oh and if you’re reading this Millie, I am more than welcome to be maid of honour. Just thought I’d put it out there…
